A coastal plain that climbs to a highland interior

Angola holds the southwestern Atlantic coast of Africa, bordered by Namibia to the south, Zambia to the east, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north. The exclave of Cabinda sits apart from the mainland, separated by a strip of Congolese territory, and holds much of the country's offshore oil. Inland, a tropical coastal plain climbs to a central plateau averaging 1,500 meters, where the headwaters of several major rivers set off toward the Atlantic and the Congo basin.
